hallo Berlin!

7 hours on a train is rough. 7 hours on a train sitting on the ground? By the door? The worst.

Fun Fact: if you don't book a seat (something they claim as optional), all of the seats will be booked up the day before your train ride - so the day we tried to book because we found out we would have to sit on the floor.

So we roughed it and surprisingly it was not TOO bad. We did have to get up at every stop to let people in and out of the door, but we also made a nice floor sitting friend - Ben from London. He said my British accent was good. Take that haters.

Another fun fact: if you take a train from Denmark to Germany, your trains pulls up on a boat and you have a lovely hourish long boat ride to sit in real seats! Then it was back to the floor with Ben for the remainder of the train ride.

But we made it to Berlin, Germany and here are some highlights from our first full day here!

Well this was the train ride...

Not happy...thankfully Casey had some Breaking Bad to watch. Love you Walter White.

We survived the 7 hours so it called for a big ass calzone! I finished the whole thing - Charlie will be proud.

After the best sleep we have had all trip long (thank you City Stay and respectful roommates who we wish wore more clothes to bed), we took a 4 1/2 hour bike tour through the city!

Yay bikes! My bikes name was Roxanne McGee. I was hoping for David Hasselhoff...

We rode to the main square which had the German and the French church's. The French church was gifted from the Germans, but being the smart people they are, they made their church identical yet a taddd bit taller then the French church across the street. Touché.

We didn't spend too much time here so hopefully tomorrow!

We love jelly doughnuts too!

What's left of the wall behind us. And now there is the wire fence around the actual Berlin Wall since too many people tried to chisel part of the wall to take home. Ironic, no?

A beautiful and symbolic memorial to those who died during the war.

Taking a break from biking at a local beer garden!

Because I'm too embarrassing to keep it to one country...

Museum island!

Stumbled upon the most beautiful graffiti around the streets of Berlin.

So that was day one/two for us in Berlin!

Today we did Berlin yoga, visited a concentration camp and enjoyed some German sausage and beer - pictures to come. Andddd we only got slightly lost on the three story train system but made it back safely.

Prost/Cheers!

hej hej Denmark!

Buh bye Denmark! Aka hej hej Denmark! Yup, that's pretty much all we learned considering their Hello is Hi...so at least we sounded like we were from Denmark at first hi

Lucky us, EVERYONE spoke English and so well too!

Before we talk about the 7 hour train ride where we sat on the ground by the door, here are some highlights from our last two days in Copenhagen!

Bomb cafe our tour guide recommended to us. Them, we ran into him there and felt super popular...We knew someone!

Then we went to Rosemborg Slot park where the Rosenborg Castle is. Beautiful, huge park where we enjoyed some salads, people/dog watching and our floppy hats.

Then there's me - jumping. Alone. With my floppy hat.

Then we were off to The RundetÃ¥rn - The Round Tower. We walked 7.5 times around to get to the top which over looks Copenhagen. AND the had Popsicles at the top. Worth it.

The Tower view

The Meatballs and their floppy hats

Yay we made it!

Then I had to embarass us.

And Casey got her Popsicle.

To celebrate one of our last nights in Denmark, we went out to an adorable restaurant on the streets of Copenhagen where we had some bomb food.

Just too many pigeons.

On our last day, we did it. We actually ran! Well Casey the freakin marathon runner ran and I tried to keep up during our halfish mile run around the river in the city center.

How could you NOT run with this view?!

We checked out Christiania - the area in Copenhagen that was taken over by some hippies awhile ago and are still residing there today. They even consider the area separate from Denmark and have a green light district. We stayed about 20 minutes and decided we needed a beer...

So we went to the brewery of our new favorite beer - Carlsberg - where they have the worlds largest unopened beer collection!

16,841 bottle exhibition - 22,346 in the total collection. I just think I would rather drink the beer then collect them

Don't you love when tours have photo ops?!

Then I became a mermaid again... #cantstopwontstop

The end of the tour where we enjoyed another one of our favorite beers!

Copenhagen may have been ridiculously expensive, but they are not lying when they say it's the most livable city. Truly beautiful and a place I think we both want to visit again.

Now, why did we have to sit on the floor for out 7 hour train ride to Berlin? We will fill you in tomorrow....it's been a long day and it's almost 11pm here - 3 hours past our bed time. Cheers!

an overrated little mermaid

Day Two - or what we consider our real first day since we both went to bed at 5pm yesterday...that whole traveling for 24ish hours really gets to you.

So we went all out for our first full day in Copenhagen, Denmark. Here's the breakdown:

Started with waking up at 7am - yay for a ridiculous amount of sleep! Then we decided on coffee. Fun fact, nothing opens until 10! How do people around here survive without morning coffee?!

We came to the conclusion that since everyone and their mom ride bikes (seriously, so many moms on mom bikes. AKA bikes with huge front basket seats for their kids), it's just too hard to bike and drink coffee at the same time. Thus, no morning coffee traffic.

We were devastated. And tired.

Then it was time for a 3 hour walking tour around the city!  Even better - it was FREE!

So many bikes and no one locks em up! So trusting here.

On a tour break - these dogs were bomb! And messy but no shirt stains. We were proud.

Then we stalked the Queen and her four houses that her sons and sister live in.

Fun Fact : their houses/mansions/castles/whatever you want to call them, are in an open square. Sometimes they can even be seen walking around with no security. Talk about down to earth or just really unimpressed locals!

They also have underground tunnels to get to each house if they see ridiculously big tours like ours. Because you know we would stop them to take a selfie. #obvi

We're trying a "meatball pose" to do in each country...still needs some work - we have two more days - but that's the Opera house behind us!

Then I became a Mermaid. Casey wouldn't join me. Which is fine because it was overly crowded for that tiny statue that doesn't even sing any of the Little Mermaid songs.

But here's Casey and a garden

Our favorite - Nyhavn!

The best takeaway from our tour - where to fine beer for 12 KR instead of 38! We grabbed a Denmark classic, Carlsberg pilsner, which we drank on the side of the canal. Cheap perfection.

Feared for our phones but we needed a beer drinking, canal sitting selfie.

Also feared for our phones here.

Ended our day at the second oldest amusement park in the world - Tivoli! Basically Disney stole all their ideas, or so our tour guide said. Minus the price to get in - here it was about $20 (99 KR) AND it came with a FREE concert! They win.

Just another part of the park.

Overall, really awesome day with a tad too much walking for us to handle but here's to coming back with stronger, buffer legs! Our boyfriends will be so jealous.

16 hours later...

We made it! But not without some surprises...

So, it only took us 16 hours of traveling to get to Copenhagen, Denmark. Our first flight was to Canada. Sadly, no complimentary food...Fail.

Our second flight was completely booked and of course Casey and I were not seated next to each other. The plan was to plee to Casey's row buddy to switch with me. No luck. Something about the back of plane being to bumpy. Lame.

The odds were somehow in our favor (yes, we also watched The Hunger Games on the flight too. So good.) Anyways,  out of a "full flight" there happened to be one seat open, NEXT TO ME! So, I gave up my isle and Casey joined me for our scary, turbulence filled flight. Sadly, her seats TV didn't work. She had a fun 7 hour flight...

To make up for it though, the flight attendant gave us four travel sized bottles of wine! Winning.

We landed and decided to take out Kroner (pronounced crown) for our 4 days in Denmark. Next was to get our metro pass to head to our hostel - too bad Casey's bank card decided to decline on her...She's had some rough money/airplane tv speaker luck. All resolved now thanks to Skype phone calls!

So we figured out the metro (shocking), got off at our stop and were greated by the best brick buildings - we are way too into them. We followed simple directions our hostel gave us which consisted of - "turn at the 7-11" (home sweet home), then "turn at the big tree." Unfortunately direction wise, there are a ton of "big trees" in Copenhagen.

We saw a group of girls down an alleyway by a big tree (our other direction - go down an alleyway) so we figured that was it! They were so friendly and excited to see us! The girl even said she had a welcome speech prepared - nice!

She asked if we had ever been here before and we said no. Looking confused, she asked if we knew there was a Gay Festival going on this week - we said no and that's when she said "oh, you didn't know it was this week? You just showed up?"

"Wait, you aren't our hostel?" That's when we realized we were not at our hostel check in but the check in for the local gay festival! We all had a good laugh and they told us our hostel was probably around the corner.

But we eventually made it to our hostel and it's a good one...sure it's triple bunk beds (guess who's sleeping15 feet off the ground?!) but only 7 strangers with us AND they have a pool table! Living it up...down side - no kitchen, so our plans of cooking dinner have been shattered in Copenhagen.

Tomorrow's our real adventure day since we're about to go to bed at 7pm because we can't handle traveling at our age...Yeah, our moms have nothing to worry about.
